- Just got the shipping version of the Novell WINSOCK, after eons in Beta,
- and the damn thing GPFs on our first call to socket(). What gives?
- Is it just me? The Beta versions worked fine apart from not receiving
- and datagrams.

- I had the same problem... and added the line "+ something.somewhere.edu.au" to
- the Xhosts listed in the xwindemo menu. I then did direct connection to
- something.somewhere.edu.au, that works pretty well. The "+ machine" bit allows
- the host machine to open connections to xwindemo or something; im not too sure

- Subject: NCSA Mosaic v2.0alpha3 and S3 video card
-
- I was made aware of a posting (group unknown) regarding the latest video
- driver for S3 video cards and Win32s, which is not a working combination.
-
- Mos2aph3 hangs my system after it displays the intitial screen. with half
- the Mosaic icon in it. The Freecell program crashes too and leaves the
- arrows at the corners in each window as empty holes.
-
- My system is a i486/66MHz, 8Mb RAM, S3 VESA Video card running at
- 1024x768 (256 colors) resolution. WfW 3.11 and Trumpet winsock v.1.0
- Rev B beta #4.
-
- Changing the Windows video driver to standard VGA did the trick, Freecell
- and Mosaic alpha 3 was running fine. However I didn't check for speed.
- The idea to run Windows in 600 by 400 resolution isn't too attractive.
-
- Now the big question: Is a working S3 driver for high resolution Windows
- available anywhere on the net? From the noise level in this group the last
- days, more than I would be interested in the answar.

-
- Connect to NCSA (ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu) and look in their
- "/pub/.../mosaic/viewers" directory. FTP the "MPEG32" file (look in the
- index for the real name). This viewer is limited to 1M files until you
- register it but you should have better luck with it. Also if you have beta
- release 1, do yourself a favor and try out the new versions of Mosaic. I
- have had good luck with both beta 2 and the new 32 bit beta 3. The version
- number of your current Mosaic can be seen in the Help menu under "About
- Windows Mosaic..." Also I haven't had any problems running Mosaic over the
- Trumpet Winsock.

- Subject: Mosac a3 on Windows NT AS - positive experience
-
- Slawek,
-
- Interesting, I have NT Advanced Server and I'm testing Mosaic Alpha3
- and am finding it 2-3 times SLOWER, what are we doing different. I
- have tried under NT Standard edition and WFWG3.11 with
- MS-TCPIP32 and all are the same.
-
- My config is as follows : 486/66 with 40mb ram running NT Advanced
- Server with U.S. Service Pack 2, U.K. Update and running NWCS_II
- and FTPSVC. I have a local URL which is BIG and upon loading first
- under Alpha2 and the Alpha3, Alpha3 is 2-3 times slower. I have
- renamed my WINSOCK.DLL to check if it is actually 32 bit it still
- works but slow. I have many other WINSOCK apps which work fine.
-
- I am interested in getting Alpha3 working because I can't seem to leave
- in background downloading and run any other 16bit apps ( standard
- mode WIN16 ).
-
- I would appreciate a note to let me know your config so I can compare.
